Todays blog post is a bit of a cheat, or a great example of multi tasking depending on how you look at it.
I am using Quora as my free traffic method, and through the platform I get requested to answer questions. Today I am taking one of those questions and using the answer as the basis for my blog. Someone got in contact with me to ask me the above the question in the title. (I’ve edited it very slighty). I have already answered it on Quora and you can read below what I wrote.
Just before you do though, I just wanted to share that I spent a bit of time over the weekend on Quora and I came across something called ‘Spaces’. It’s a new feature and if I am totally honest I am not really sure of their function yet. I created one regardless, and called it ‘life after nursing’ and portryaed it as a space weher nurses who have left the profession, or who are thinking about it can get together. Please check it out and like, follow, comment etc. Get involved as I would love to see if I can get a bit of traction going with it.
Thanks, anyway here’s the answer I provided….
There are so many courses, classes and programmes to choose from not mention all the ‘gurus’ and ‘experts’ out there claiming to be living the high life and earning extraordinary amounts of money (whilst doing nothing), it can be a little overwhelming knowing where to start and who to trust.
Hopefully, I can give you some useful insights on how to tackle this.
The first thing to be clear on is whether you are looking for an affiliate marketing course or are you looking to join an affiliate marketing program or a combination of the two?
A course is going to be something along the lines of a step by step guide telling you what you need to do. This will give you the information on how to do affiliate marketing, but nothing else. Think Udemy. You will still have to find a person, business or company who run affiliate programs and provides products to sell, so you can put what you have learnt into practice.
An affiliate program is a company, business or person who have products to sell, for example like Amazon, and run affiliate programs so that people can make money from selling their products, but they won’t necessarily teach you how to do this.
A combination of the two is something more in-depth that not only explains the process but gives you the opportunity to put the steps into practice and make money as you go, so they provide the education and the affiliate program in one bundle.
Once you’re clear on exactly what you’re looking for, you need to consider that everybody is going to tell you that their affiliate marketing course or opportunity is the best. You get past this by doing your own due diligence.
You will need to spend time looking into what is being offered, what it claims to provide and what evidence is provided to back this up. Although it has improved massively; affiliate marketing still has quite a poor reputation and is considered by many to be one giant scam.
There is a valid reason for this; historically, affiliate marketing has full of crooks offering you the world and not delivering once you have parted with your money. As I have said this has improved massively but there are still some scammy and unethical marketers out there who are only too happy to take your money and provide you with rubbish in return.
The great thing about the internet is that it makes it hard for these people to continue to do this without getting caught. A couple of high profile companies have had their businesses shut down by the FTC in America for being accused of being scams. People will shout about it to anyone who will listen if they feel they have been ripped off. So, it’s up to you to find out who is running the program you are considering and check them out. Contact them or their support desk, Google them and check out their social media.
An ethical marketer or company will be open and answer your enquiries. People who have gone through their course or program will indicate whether it’s good or bad. Obviously, no one can please everyone all the time so reputable businesses may have some disgruntled people, but if the evidence is overwhelmingly positive then take it on board. If you’re still not sure, keep investigating until you are. NEVER part with your money if you’re not 100% happy.
Other things to look for when you’re doing your due diligence is how long has this marketer of company been around, the longer the better is a rule to follow.
Also, what are you getting for you money? Are you paying for a one of piece of information or is there on-going support?
If you’re looking at the combination option, where you get the education and the opportunity to sell and make money as you go; on-going support is one aspect that I believe is a necessity.
Affiliate marketing is an evolving business, it has changed so much just in the last few years. An option to have ongoing support that helps to keep you up-to-date is always better than one that doesn’t.
If you think about it, it makes sense that they should offer you on-going support as an affiliate marketer because every time you sell something, they make money too. It is in their interest to help you be good and stay good at it. If a company or marketer does not offer this, you need to ask yourself why. I am not saying that all affiliate marketing opportunities that do not offer on-going support are bad, I am just saying do your due diligence.
You also need to consider the products that you will be selling. You will be basing your reputation on them. Ask yourself if you would be happy to pay for and use them. Again, due diligence is required here, and the internet is your friend in achieving this.
So, to get back to the question in hand, whatever answers you get to this question, you cannot just take them at face value. You need to first be clear about exactly what you’re looking for and then you need to be happy about what exactly you’re getting for your money.
I have tried various of making money online and have found affiliate marketing to be the most lucrative– for me. I got myself a mentor, who provides with me with ongoing training and a selection of high quality products.
My goal is to use affiliate marketing to become self sufficient so I can leave my job as a nurse. I help other nurses to try and achieve the same thing and help other people who want to get involved in affiliate marketing.
